Why I am anxious during COVID 19 and How I cope

Hi Friends,

Mid-March is when the department in which I work, closed down.

The lockdown news hit end-Of-March. The day before my birthday, I found out my state issued every one to stay home unless essential needs have to be met. My boyfriend lives in a state away, so he couldn't attend my birthday, which honestly, was no big deal until I found out he was going to propose that day! I was distraught, but plans change. Events are delayed worldwide. We must all be patient and understanding.

Coping Mechanism: Stay positive, repeat positive affirmations. Focus attention on things you can control.

My reaction to the situation: Now I have more time and motivation to lose the weight I want. I want to look my best in a wedding dress. Not only do I have the time to exercise, but I also have time to spend with my loved one (I live with my parents), renewed hobbies, and interests. With all these changes happening, my priorities change as well.

One of my priorities is to focus on my physical, mental, and emotional health.

Types of Self-Care

Physical Health: exercising (that indoor cardio tho), use safe sanitation practices by washing hands, wear masks, etc.) stay hydrated, maintaining a healthy diet

Mental Health: create schedule/routine for daily structure, create financial goals/plans, make sure to spend time outside (take a walk, spend time on the porch or deck)

Emotional Health: Breathing exercises, keep creative outlets and hobbies/interests, spend time with family, call friends

It's hard to predict what tomorrow, next week, or next month will bring. We must continue to adapt to changes in our environment. I hope sharing my anxieties and reactions will be useful to people going through similar situations. You are strong, not alone. Difficult times don't last forever, but these times challenge our feelings/emotions. It's how we react to these situations that make all the difference. Best of luck to everyone!
